powerful communication

i always afraid of presentation and meeting people. other than that, i hate arguing! i hate to express my thought as well as my ideas although i am very sure my ideas is the best. in a nutshell, i can say that i am lack of communication skills.

but, as a research student, by hook or by crook, i must overcome this because i will always have to do presentation, defend my papers, attending seminars, critics articles and so on.

so, these are fruitful-to-be-shared article that i read in Quill today.

two main reasons people have trouble communicating powerful ideas are due to:

1. their own lack of self-confidence
2. they don't get clear about the end results they want to achieve before they engage into conversation

main strategies:
be solution oriented, not problem focused

guidelines:

1. what is your intention for having this conversation/presentation?
2. what is the breakdown you are addressing? clearly define what's working and not working ( get your facts right)
3. what is your proposed idea and why implement it?
4. how will it benefit the listening party? at the very least, in financial and emotional terms.
5. how will you make it work? have a well thought-out plan of how you'll implement the changes.
